Sandra Ali leaving WDIV Channel 4 after 13 years

Sandra Ali announced she was leaving WDIV (Channel 4) after more than a decade on Sunday, January 22, 2203.

The longtime news anchor has worked in broadcast news for two decades and delivered the 6 pm and 11 pm news for Detroit’s WDIV every weekend for 13 years.

Ali graduated from Syracuse University’s prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Journalism aged 20 and earned a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

She announced that she would be leaving on Sunday’s news program and has hinted at what might be to come for her.

In her goodbye to viewers this Sunday, Ali said: “I’m grateful for all of the lifelong friendships I’ve made working at WDIV. After 13 years, I’m moving on to a wonderful, new opportunity.”

She added: “This decision was my own. I’m excited and focused on the future. I’ve spent nearly two decades combined both at channel 2 and 4 anchoring the news, plus having the privilege of being able to share so many important stories through the years.”

Ali said she felt honored that viewers “allowed [her] to come into [their] homes, night after night,” and said:”I take that role very seriously.”

She hinted at what’s to come and said viewers will see her on TV soon, adding: “I can’t wait to share where I’m heading next with viewers soon. I’m happy to do a follow-up once I can share more details.”

Sandra Ali’s journalism career

Sandra Ali was well-established in her field even before she joined WDIV. In 2002, she won the Associated Press award for Best Hard News Reporter as well as Michigan’s Association of Broadcasters’ award for Best Breaking News Reporter in 2003.

As per The Detroit News, Ali started her career at the CBS affiliate in Altoona Pennsylvania, moving to Fox News 2 in Detroit after two years.

She joined the NBC affiliate in Cincinnati in 2004, anchoring the station’s 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts before moving to WDIV.

Sandra Ali has four kids with a fellow WDIV reporter

Sandra Ali and WDIV reporter of more than a decade Shawn Ley have four children together. Local 4 “relies on Shawn” to get to breaking news and highlight daily investigations along with “solutions based journalism.”

As per Distractify, the couple reportedly tied the knot in 2006 at the Hills Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio, however, there have allegedly been unconfirmed rumors that the couple has separated.
