Luisa Amélia Guimarães e Melo is the late wife of former Prime Minister of Portugal, António Guterres. She died of cancer at a hospital in Hampstead, London, in 1998.

As the chief administrative officer of the United Nations (UN), Guterres is responsible for fighting hunger, promoting peace, and protecting millions of refugees around the world.

Before assuming the office of the Secretary-General of the UN, Guterres served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. He was also a member of the team that negotiated Portugal’s entry into the ‘European Union.’ In public polls conducted in 2012 and 2014, he was voted as the best Prime Minister of Portugal of the previous 30 years.
